Dream meaning: Owl

OwlLongtime symbolism include death; spiritual darkness. Related activities of the night sexual or otherwise, it therefore shares some of the same symbolism as night or moon.

It is the symbol of Athena (goddess of learning), it can relate to Wise Old Man archetypes. Some of our idioms suggest its relationship to wisdom or balancing intellect or judgement against pure emotion (wise as an owl) and to craftiness.
See birds, moon, Wise Old man.

Last night I had a dream that my husband and I were standing in front of the porch at night, as I looked to my left I see a brownish colored owl with a light colored face sitting/perched on the barbed-wire fence. I was not scared, just surprised to see it so close and in the open like that. Anyway, the is looking straight at me and takes off flying right between my husband and I about head level, doesn’t touch either of us and disappeared right at that moment. The dream was very lucid. I have always been a wild dreamer since I was a child and didn’t mind it at all, I always thought it was fun. Going to all sorts of places and having adventures, until I started having too many scary snake dreams and frogs/toads(yuck!). I began trying to tune the dreams out or turn them off so to speak and it has worked, but this owl dream snuck through and I don’t know what to make of it. Does anyone have any thoughts about what it was about?
    Thank you.

I had a dream an owl landed on my back and refused to get off. I sat outside and a mountain lion came up to me and pulled the owl off of my back and ate it.

Had a dream I was in some sort of class. The instructor had the vibe of Clair Huxtable. The building had an open court and swarms of all different types of birds, blue in color ; they were hanging about. When I looked above, I saw owls somewhat hidden in the shadows. They were furry with long legs almost standing humanlike. I heard “whoing” here and there. What eventually stood out was a huge blue dodo bird who appeared to be old and the leader of them. Please help? What does this mean??

I am standing outside under a tree and I’m calling and feeding a large owl who is responding to me and coming closer. I’m not sure what the conversation was about. Does anyone know what this mean? Thanks

I had a dream that I awoke and above my head was a tree with one owl in it it,
It stares at me and I jump onto my wife’s side of the bed I look up and nothing is there, but it seemed so real I still get the chills thinking about it.

Dreamt of a giant grey owl following me. First I thought it wanted to harm me but it was actually protecting me from something. It was scary. Owls usually symbolise death, I’m pregnant due in November and this dream has freaked me out. Any idea what it means?

  • shannonfarlouis // Apr 27, 2014 at 9:39 pm

THIS IS NOT A DREAM, it is real life. When I was six years old, I remember hearing the owl in an old large, oak tree hoo woo woo at night. I was staying with my grandmother. She told me it was an owl, but I would never see it, only hear it and it puzzeled me. So, then during the day I would wonder around the old, oak tree in search of the owl, the mystery calling creature of the night. I would eagerly want to spend the night at maw-maws just to listen to the owl call. Now that I am 44 a baby owl falls from the tree and I save it by picking it up off the ground before a wild pack of dogs attack it. I rescue the little blue-eyed owl and feed it and it lets me rub it on the top of its head. It peared into my eyes and my first tough was that it was giving me the evil eye. Or was it the evil eye? I cannot tell yet because it has not been more than one week, but I feel the owl loves me and I love the owl, such a magical and magnificent creature, I don’t know if I could let it fly free of if it wants too. I do know that it is here to deliver me some sort of message, nut I don’t know when or what. This could be the beginning of a novel, since I am an online freelance writer, buit it really depends on the message, if it is sacred, then, I will never tell.

I had a dream that I was dreaming in my bed. I woke up and there at the foot of the bed was a gigantic white and grey owl. It was watching me sleep. We looked at each other and it ruffled its feathers a little. Then it just disappeared.

  • Joe T // Apr 25, 2013 at 11:48 pm

I dreamed I walked into a building made of marble walls and seen a paper on the wall saying Joe T
I walked into the room and a woman with the name plate on her desk asked if she could help me. I said My name is Joe T and wondered if we are related. She said yes of course we talked when you came back from Europe after serving two years in the military. ( I never been to Europe) I walked back out into the hallway of marble and looked gown to see a number of square columns that seem to divide as I walked closer. I looked up at some movement at the corner ceiling where a shelf would be with knickknacks and seen two large birds (about a foot each) come out and flew down next to me. The one that was sitting on a cabinet behind the Owl was a goldish but not gold, more like brown and yellow mixed to look gold which resembled a Egyptian bird from wall drawings and a Owl in front with a large eye in the center of its head looking at me (Only had one eye) I watched it follow my gaze at it as it watched me walk by. After I woke up I could remember more details about that dream then I have ever been able that dream then I have with any others.

I dreamt that I was somewhere slightly dark and industrial and we seemed to be trying to pass through quickly. But I suddenly turned to whoever I was with, could have been my mom or ny boyfriend, and said, let me throw my line in real quick, meaning my fishing line. Up to this point I wasn’t aware of having a pole or seeing a river. Anyway I threw it in and as we’re still somewhat hurrying away I feel a tug on my line. I give a good pull and reel in my catch. What I reel in is not a fish though, it’s an owl head and partial body. It wasn’t struggling or bleeding and didn’t seem hurt or dead. It stared at me with large golden eyes and it had dark metallic blue feathers. I was mesmerized but not very scared. Then I woke up. Any insight?

A black owl landed on my shoulder. It stayed and slept there. It concerned me but it was clean and sweet.
What is the symbolism or intrepretation?

  • Jay // Sep 11, 2012 at 12:34 pm

i had just awaken into a lucid dream…i used my ability to fly…soon after…a very large all black owl with penetrating yellow eyes flew directly toward me..he spoke to me(mentally) in a very calm voice saying something amongst the lines of “you have released the devil”..maybe not exactly those words…but right after that…a gigantic beast burst from the ground (hell beneath him)..A large black arm reached in my direction trying to crush me 3 times..i evaded each attack..ran and ended up in a new dream…did some research online …now im here…the interpretations told me more than i expected…

I dreamed this last night. I was back in my hometown, in my home, and an owl appeared before me in my house. She flew over to me and landed on my shoulders. She then spoke to me, that is how I know it was a female. Nothing very profuound, more casual talk. She took me out to the garage and showed me her nest and introduced me to her three babys. I could feel her on my shoulders all night, and I can still feel the weight of her. It feels like an envelope of warmth. The dream was very vivid and complete. A very powerful, powerful experience.

White owls have followed me, in real life, for about two years. I have had related UFO & entity sightings when seeing these owls. They’re recently coming into my dreams and attempting to make me believe they’re my spirit guides, when I already know my own and have great relationships with them. My power animal is a Wolf, I feel like he protects me from them. Last night a baby white owl was in my dream, playing with my best friend and I. Yes, playing…like laughing with us and poking us and flapping it’s wings all funny…In the middle of “having fun” (I really can find another way to describe) my entire dream slowed to almost a hault, the owl captured my gaze and we stared each other in the eyes for a long, loooong time…then I broke te gaze and we continued to “play”. I have a few friends in the area who have had similar dreams, I personally believe now that they are reptilians. Be careful kids, I know what I am speaking of.

Had a dream that this Indian woman guided me in a room, we had to take these stone steps that spiraled downward, when we got there she disappeared and it was dark, I found a platform to stand on and was looking for the lights when I turned around all I could see were these huge owl eyes across the cave-like room. It’s eyes were bigger than my whole body…I felt afraid at first then just mesmerized..the color of the eyes started out yellow then one of the eyes changed…the right one I think, it was as if it were a light bulb that had blown out a bit…strange. That’s mostly what I remember.

In my dream, there is a tree with six owls perched on the branches. Each owl looked different, some looked like actual owls I have seen before and a few were exotic or fantastic looking. Seeing them filled me with a sense of awe, but while I was watching them the bushes behind the tree began to shake violently and three wolves rushed out and began devouring the owls. The owls wouldn’t fly away, they just waited to be eaten. Then one of the wolves became like a werewolf and started to chase me. I can’t remember any more of the dream after that.

I had a dream two nights ago of two owls. A brown and black one. I was in my room talking to a friend. I looked through my window for some reason and through it I saw the two owls on a branch of my plumeria tree. The brown owl was in front of the black owl. Although the black owl was bigger the brown owl covered most of.it because it was in front of the black owl. As I made eye contact with the owl I realzed it had already been staring at me. It had yellow piercing eyes. And the moment our eyes connected something really unexplainable happened. it was like my mind had shifted so to speak and colors began to change as if I wwere hallucinating off shrooms. The feeling was so indescribable and eerie it made me look away. i tried to ahake it off and then looked back at the owl. When I made eye contact again an even more intense feeling came over my whole body and mind. Its as if it sent a message to my brain and kickstarted something. It was phenominal. It flew away after that into the valley. As it flew from the branch the rest of the black owl became exposed and I saw its size. It looked ar me for a split second very calmly. Thwn followed the brown owl. All the while I was in this hallucinated state. And then it shorty went away and I was left breathless. Then woke up. I believe this is symbolic as well as prophetic. I have been studying elenin and all there is to know about 2012 and what not. Could this.be hinting something??

I had a dream of a brown owl with one eye. The owl told me something. I think it said “chill out” or something along those lines.

From Dreamota Admin: I think maybe it means that you should chill out 😉

J’ai rêvé qu’une chouette entrait dans ma maison et volait dans toute les pièces, soudain un homme arrive pour la capturer mais n’arrive pas à l’attraper car je sens qu’elle veut rester avec moi, elle était beige légèrement tâchetée.

im in an old neighborhood i used to live in and im outside next to a tree. i look up into the tree and see a white breasted barred owl with light brown and tanish plumage. when i notice it, it looks down at me and simply remains perched, i then proceed to take numerous photos of it other people gather outside and do the same. i then take the entire tree into perspectiive and notice that what i thought were leaves are actually an uncountable amount of the same looking owls occupying the tree and they are all looking at me then i woke up

I dreamed that a huge white owl was sitting and watching my sister and I argue, with my dad (who is not alive) sitting next to us. The owl just watched and every now and then would expand his wings all the way open and close them again, no noise. I remember the owl being huge and pure white, with large black eyes.

I was walking with a friend of mine through the suburbs of some big city. Although, I don’t know if it was a girl or a guy, I just know they are my friend. Anyway, we are walking down a sidewalk and all around us are homes and small businesses. We walk on for quite a bit. We stop in front of a blue two story house. As we begin to chat my friend turns and begins to walk away. I look at them and in wonderment ask, “What’s going on here? Where are you going?” Then, in the distance, high above us is an Owl. It’s big, gray and ancient looking. It’s wings appear to be made of dust and it’s feet and legs look like gold. It began circling above us and made direct eye contact with me. Round black eyes. Sunken and tired. I called to it like a Crow. As the Owl began it’s descent, it began to open it’s mouth. The beak became over-exaggerated and opened. It looked as if I could be swallowed whole. My friend knew that this would happen and now I knew that that is why they had to go away. I held up my right arm to block the bird, to shield myself from it’s fury and try to stay alive. But instead I thought, “No. Not this time. Now You will learn. Instead of cowering, I stabbed my fist into it’s mouth. I thrashed around from the pain and slammed it to the ground several times. Blood came from it’s beak. I didn’t know if it was the Owls or mine, but I was relentless for survival. I was not going to be eaten by this bird. I began to yelling at the Owl. Saying things like, “How dare you threaten me., You will never devour me., You are old as time itself and still you folly.”

I stopped yelling at it and realized just how badly I had wounded it. That not only was the Owl far older than I had thought but it was exhausted, starving, bleeding and in pain. I removed my bloody fist from it’s mouth, picked it up and said to it, “I will take you home with me and restore you. But do not take this for granted and do not attack.” I took the Owl to my home, the entrance way was horrendous. It was weather beaten and falling apart. The white paint was chipping and showed the bare wood underneath. The porch looked as if it could collapse at any moment. The smell of mold was atrocious. But as I looked through MY front door, I saw that this was a home I had never seen before. The house was well maintained and clean. The colors were amazing. Red’s, Blue’s, Green’s Yellow’s, Orange’s, Purple’s, White’s Black’s, Brown’s. Pillows were everywhere. Soft cushions and solid tables and chairs. A kitchen with a hot stove and a boiling kettle. Bright sunshine coming inside from the clear windows. The floor was strong and stable. The walls were straight and sturdy. It as warm inside. I cradled this now defenseless Owl like a baby in my arms, took it inside and set it down on a soft chair. I noticed that it couldn’t stretch it’s wings, so I put it on top of my dining table. It tried to walk, it tried to lift it’s wings. It did neither. I arranged a small bed out of purple/orange pillows and blue/green fabric, so that it would be comfortable. And As I Watched Over, The Owl Slept.

I dreamt of a friendly owl who swooped silently from the roof of a building to land on my shoulder and then took off again. The owl did not hoot, but rather observed me from the rooftop through the darkness. I could only see his silhouette.

Ironically after reading about the various interpretations of the dream, I believe it must have something to do with symbolic death, as yesterday was the last day of my working life, and the true beginning of my new life that I have planned. Amazing what your dreams can tell you.

I had a dream there was something in my house. I picked it up and it looked at me and I realized it was an owl. I opened the back door and let it out into the night and he flew away.

I saw a dream that a huge and big white owl sat in front of our old building that we used to live in, no noise or anything from the owl, just calm, huge and big and it flew in front of our old apartment door. I wonder what does it mean?
